MAKE SOME SHIT
Nov 11th
Today, I decided to issue a demand on everyone I communicate with: MAKE SOMETHING.
In the next 12 months, create 20 -32 pages of printed material (OR MORE) and publish it as a work. If that doesn’t work for you, Make 12 T shirt designs or 12 coffee cup designs.
CREATE.
If you are feeling bereft of a connection to the Universe, nurture and coax something out of your mind and offer it up for others to enjoy. If you feel like there’s nothing out there that fits what you are looking for, make it. Have fun doing it, make it a silly project, make a serious project, JUST MAKE.
CONNECT.
You may ask, “But Hank, I would need a Publisher or a contact to do this. I am not good enough to get someone to pay me up front for my work.” Nonsense. Here are several ways to get your creation out there. (There are MANY MANY MORE as well.)

If you are wondering if it takes tons of skill to make your own book, let Ariana straighten you out.
This is about YOU making things and putting them out there for people you know (and don’t know yet,) and participating in HOLY ACT OF CREATION.

The knowledge of Life is also the knowledge of death.

Do What thou Wilt Shall be the Whole of the Law,
“A feast for fire and a feast for water, a feast for life and a greater feast for death!” -Liber Al, ch 2, 41
“Aye! feast! rejoice! there is no dread hereafter. There is the dissolution and eternal ecstasy in the kisses of Nu.” -Liber Al. ch 2. 44
Today, we celebrate my maternal grandfather’s greater feast.
I have many very vivid memories of my grandfather, who taught me a number of things including that you should use the right tool for the job or the job becomes harder and you still need the tool.
Or that with patience you can make some really beautiful things.
That isn’t to say he never got mad or never raised his voice, I think we shared a relatively short fuse that burns quickly, makes a lot of noise and then gets down to brass tacks and fixing the problem.
He was the closest grandparent I had, and closer in a number of ways than my biological father, and he helped me and the rest of the family out probably a little more than he should have. He cared a lot about his children and grandchildren.
He had a number of close calls over the last several weeks notably one when he went in the first time and I was at the Luau for William Blake Lodge. I had to begin preparing myself for what would inevitably happen, though I would have preferred it be years off instead of mere weeks. He did get to say good bye to most of the family, and I think he knows he was loved very much.
When I think about his place in our lives on a family level, I immediately am drawn to the collect for the Sun from Liber XV, the Gnostic Mass:
“Lord visible and sensible of whom this earth is but a frozen spark turning about thee with annual and diurnal motion, source of light, source of life, let thy perpetual radiance hearten us to continual labour and enjoyment; so that as we are constant partakers of thy bounty we may in our particular orbit give out light and life, sustenance and joy to them that revolve about us without diminution of substance or effulgence for ever.”
I think that he WAS a good example of sharing the energy and bounty that he received, and that in turn he passed it on to his family and friends whenever he could. I think that his children and grandchildren strive to continue caring for one another and their chosen families as well which makes him far more potent than I think even could have been impressed upon him. He reached a lot of people though his own life and the lives of his loved ones.
Much like the Sun, he had an air of permanence. I never expected to have to write the words that I am expressing now. Not because I felt that he was never going to die, just he wasn’t going to do it until he was good and ready because there was work to do. He was, in many ways that presence that you could look to when the night was just about over and you were shivering your way through the darkness and doubting you were going to make it. You thought about him and suddenly the dawn was creeping over the horizon, telling you to get a move on.
He was a product of his times. He was at times trapped in the thinking of the past and I like to think that in some manner, he would have liked to been able to break that cycle of thinking, if he could just find the root. But in his way, he helped break down the barriers of race and religion in his offspring and their offspring and many of his grandchildren are astonishingly colorblind and accepting. He helped me realized that even though he wasn’t ready for it, that color is something on your clothes, not in your heart. I think it made me accept the third line of the Book of the Law without hesitation as one of those universal statements that cannot be denied.
“Every man and every woman is a star“ -Liber Al, ch 1, 3
I don’t recall him being very religious. I think part of it had to do with his service in Korea, and being wounded there. Aside from just being my hero, he also was a Hero to our nation, with a Silver Star with palms awarded to him. (I do not know the circumstances, but it is an Item I hope to learn some day. He didn’t like discussing it.) The feeling I get was that he was spiritual, and he kept his beliefs within him and they seemed to serve him well. He wasn’t a Thelemite, nor do I think he would have found the path fulfilling in his life. I think that he was happy to let others follow their paths and that he was happy on his, and that is really what is important.
I think it is time I close, with excerpts from the collects for Death and the End of this incarnation from the Gnostic Mass.
Term of all that liveth, whose name is inscrutable, be favourable unto us in thine hour.
Unto them from whose eyes the veil of life hath fallen may there be granted the accomplishment of their true Wills; whether they will absorption in the Infinite, or to be united with their chosen and preferred, or to be in contemplation, or to be at peace, or to achieve the labour and heroism of incarnation on this planet or another, or in any Star, or aught else, unto them may there be granted the accomplishment of their wills; yea, the accomplishment of their wills.
Love is the law, love under will.

I have been chewing on this for about ten minutes

Cat Vincent’s Guttershaman-Working Magic post.
It’s interesting. I can’t say that there is more to it than that.
I want to digest more before there is commentary.
Mucking about in the Book of the Law (Ch2)
Jul 21st
Behold! the rituals of the old time are black. Let the evil ones be cast away; let the good ones be purged by the prophet! Then shall this Knowledge go aright.
(Create new rituals! Invoke often!)
I am the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every star. I am Life, and the giver of Life, yet therefore is the knowledge of me the knowledge of death.
(Death is but a shadow upon the face of a Star, beyond is That which remains!)
I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.
(Onward in Silence and Mystery! To the halls of Khabs!)
Who worshipped Heru-pa-kraath have worshipped me; ill, for I am the worshipper.
(Every man and woman is a Star!)
Remember all ye that existence is pure joy; that all the sorrows are but as shadows; they pass & are done; but there is that which remains.
(so mote it be!)
Holy CROWLEY!

If I get to see only one movie this summer, this will be it. I was giggling through the last 2/3 of the trailer.
Tuesday Twiddlings
Mar 18th
Received good news for school, consolidation loan going through (allegedly) Thursday. (Ferris: Let my Transcripts Go!) I keep getting the vibe that the work I do for money is less important than the work I do regarding the Sunum Bonum and Thelema in general.
Saturday was the big fucking cleaning day with some on Sunday. The Dining room is pretty well done, the Living room is at 90%, with some minor jobs to be done. The Office is a nightmare as is the Kitchen. We are planning on getting paint for the front bathroom. Hopefully next Sunday is the day to knock that bastard out. (New fixtures and shower hardware! YAY!)
Sunday was broken up some by the Symbolism classes at William Blake Lodge. They went pretty well and I got some reinforcement to ward looking to outside sources for information and hints. Brothers R and C were most helpful and I enjoyed poking through the imagery with them.
The presentation for FSG comes along. Making a tight 4 hour presentation will be interesting, and hopefully I will get the chance to run it at WBL later this year. I am working on locating a good deal on tarot decks (7-10 Rider-Waite, 3-5 Thoth decks) the best offer I have is 20% off, which is pretty good, but I’m still poking through the options.
Yesterday (Monday) Blew. Just a general asstastic day at work. I think I was tired/busy/sore and it was hard to function. I need to get my ass back to the Gym, which helps me regulate things. I declared the evening a Sabbath of rest and we had dinner in the dining room as well as vegetated and watched some season 7 Buffy. It is just getting better…
Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are on tap from netflix. Dunno if we will get to them, but I think it is likely something that may occur next week. We are starting to get into crunch time for Ecumenicon, and then C visits, then G comes for training. It is amazing the amount of stuff we can cram into a couple of months.
The New toy is fascinating. The fact that the X-Box 360 will do stuff with Microsoft’s DNA development kit means that I can also apply what I learn in school to my fun time too. I’m totally hooked on two old X box Games (under 10 dollar bin for the Win!) and working on playing on X box Live sometime soon.
This is the week that was. (Or Something)
Mar 14th
I have been directing you all here, sometimes subtly, sometimes through threats of violence, and still others by page redirects. I figure it is about time I actually get off my butt and write something.
Started the week on a Magickal High (I am counting Saturdays as the start of the week, as that seems to be when the most work can get done, unless I am slacking) from making Abra Melin incense and Oil, and then finally Cakes of Light with the Crowley You So Crazeee Study Group (Documented on this page earlier.) I am rather proud of myself because I have cakes of light that are both Book of the Law ‘correct’ and Gluten Free! They also came out more or less as you would expect a cake of light to appear. Many thanks to S, BJ, C, J, and whatshername. (I really cannot remember her name… did it start with a k?)
I finished Accidental Christ which was a great book, as long as you don’t mind a little bit of liberty taken with your bible stories. (There are truly some funny bits in there, my favorite is how Simon Peter became known as “The Rock”.)
Just as I started the week with a Magickal buzz, I have ended it with the promise of more development. Lon Milo DuQuette, (I cannot bring myself to post the Youtube video, guys. Its really funny and I wish I could have seen Lon’s face the first time he saw it, but that may be for another post.) author of many fine (and funny!) occult books has offered a class on the Maybe Logic Academy titled “Initiation
The Western Magical Tradition” (exciting title, no? Ok I’m just giving Lon a Hard Time now.. though its not like he will ever read this.) It is a bit pricey, but if you are unsure about joining an actual ceremonial magician order like to OTO, It may well be worth the investment to get your feet wet and see if it fits you.
On other fronts, we are prepping for a visit from Chuck and I am doing a MASSIVE reordering of the house. (Well that, and I am trying to accommodate the treadmill for the dog in the office.) It looks like a vast wasteland here at the moment with the dining room slowly coming together. It also appears that another trip to the Storage Unit will be occurring.
Anyway, that was my week that was, though I may have forgotten something and will probably post more as things go along.
Success Is Thy Proof!
Mar 9th
Spent a wonderful evening making Abramelin Incense and Oil with Brothers and soon to be maybe sister, (if we did not scare her off!) was being a bit economy minded and let Jack have the oil we made and took the solids from anyone who would give them up and I have a nice 1QT bottle infusing and separating and will probably get much more out of it. We then made Cakes of Light, which proved interesting as an experiment and the outcome was satisfactory with mine, and I think the same for everyone else. I may have to use less oil next time, but it appears I have achieved Gluten Free Cakes of Light! We all went hardcore and made Active Cakes. (The poor poor positive child will have their hands full next mass, I believe.) There was much banter and posturing on the great Mysteries of the Universe, and fun was had by all involved.
We had a good time and bonded a little and honestly, it was a damned lot of fun. I look forward to the next one eagerly.
(I think this was the Baphomet Crocker or Martha Crowley episode of the Crowley You So Crazee Study group.)
Lon Milo DuQuette In Delaware
Feb 24th
I had the privilege of spending my Saturday with Lon at the home of Seelie Court coven in central Delaware. He held his Enochian Magick Class and promoted his new book, “Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley”, which is out in June.
He was gracious enough to sign my “Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot” book, and I picked up his DVD for Miki and he signed that as well. (The DVD was “Lon Milo DuQuette
Live & Uncensored: Tarot Kabbalah & Oracles” )
The Enochian Class was wonderful, and talking about stuff during the break with Lon was a real treat and I got a ‘blessing’ only as Lon could to use his material as reference (as long as it is cited, of course) for my upcoming Tarot Presentation.
We watched the episode of Enigma about Aleister Crowley with Lon and Richard Kaczynski. (Entertaining and NOT as bad as some other short documentaries out there.)
